So why on that day in early 2013, when our Lay director Billy Hollis asked me to be Lay Rector for Canterbury Cursillo #52, did I say yes??  I was to ask myself that question many times over the next few months !!

Cursillo #52 was supposed to take place in May 2014 but for various reasons it had to be postponed even though a lot of preparation had taken place. However, the new October date swung into sight and it coincided with the arrival of a new Grandson!!

On October 30th I and the team members arrived at The Friars and they soon proved their worth by getting everything ready in record time.  Was I nervous?  Of course I was, but we soon had everything ready for the first pilgrims to arrive.

The weather couldn’t have been better and we were able to be outside for a lot of the activities.  God was most definitely there, as we watched the delight of the pilgrims as the weekend unfolded.  As usual, the look on their faces as they entered St Joseph’s Chapel for the final service was a sight to behold - huge smiles and some tears!  The whole weekend was a blessing and I thank God for the experience of leading it.

The amazing amount of prayer support and love which always underpins a Cursillo weekend was really tangible and we were also able to give prayer support to Chichester and Oxford who were running weekends at the same time.

Here are some of the comments made by pilgrims about their weekend:

“Just the most amazing experience!  Still not had time to absorb it, but the love remains”
“Thank you for leadership, loving care and wonderful teaching.”
“I was feeling very dry spiritually and now feel so encouraged.”
“I will treasure all the memories of love, peace, joy and laughter!”
“St Bartholomew will always remind me of my special weekend.”

Thank you all staff and pilgrims for the love we shared.  May God bless you.
